Who is it for? If you are new to Finance, for example if you are looking for a career change into finance or a student with a non-finance degree, you will need to start here.
What you need to apply: There are no formal prerequisite qualifications for this stage. However, if you have studied the same subjects elsewhere, before, you may be able to apply for exemptions from some of these papers.
The exams: To complete the certificate in business accounting you must successfully complete four exams, BA1, BA2, BA3, and BA4. All four exams are multiple choice, and you can book and sit the exams whenever you are ready. You may also complete them in any order you prefer; however, you will only be able to progress into the next level once you complete all four.
Subjects:
BA1 Fundamentals of Business Economics
Provides understanding of key financial actions that shape strategic decisions within an organisation. Explores economic and operational factors that impact performance, and examines how external influences such as market dynamics, competitive pressures, and government policies can affect business outcomes. Also includes an understanding of consumer behaviour.
BA2 Fundamentals of Management Accounting
Develops core understanding and skills related to management accounting, highlighting the responsibilities and contributions of a management accountant within an organisation. Emphasises the significance of CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) and explores the common functions of management accounting across private businesses, public sector entities, and broader society.
BA3 Fundamentals of Financial Accounting
Provides a hands-on approach in financial accounting and the preparation of financial statements for individual legal entities. It also explores the relevant regulatory and legal frameworks, introduces key accounting systems, and offers a foundation in evaluating financial performance.
BA4 Fundamentals of Ethics, Corporate Governance
Builds knowledge of ethical and professional principles that support the interests of organisations, project sponsors, and stakeholders. Covers key aspects such as corporate governance, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and auditing, as well as essential elements of contract and employment law, and the legal, administrative, and managerial responsibilities involved in running a company.
